I am in awe; I don’t think anyone has put this level of thought into Wild at Heart but I believe with my full heart that it has paid off. Thank you for the most thoughtful response I’ve ever received to a note that was mainly intended to a few chuckles at most.
the things we laugh at easily are things we know others will also take lightly; sometimes we do this because we are embarrassed by things we perceive to be beneath us; sometimes our attempts to elevate ourselves above simple truisms in fact distance us from things that might be true.
haha i just got feedback that I write like Gandalf but not in a complimentary way.
simple things are not worse than more sophisticated ones. sometimes we intellectual types try to distance ourselves from things that are simple or common. we’re embarrassed by our mother’s piety or her church, for instance. but common things have no weaker tie to the truth than sophisticated ones. when it comes to gender, simpler may be better. is it a science, or is it more like telling the weather? jury is still out on this one but i think you can see my leaning.
Ok yes I very much on the same page now. Natural and simplistic things don’t necessarily imply inferiority. To offer a low brow example of this in my experience: I used to think Rom coms were a horrible genre because their formula was ridiculous and always foreseeable. But Harry Met Sally is a fantastic movie simply because it follows a strict formula. But perhaps I took the analogy too far in the wrong direction.

This is sage advice that has gone over my head a bit. But I am open to receiving intellectual training from you if you’re feeling charitable.

that's right. there may be more here to examine, let me think about it a bit.
The only Wild at Heart I'm familiar with is the David Lynch movie, and I don't think this book is related!
